With every title track there has to be a music video. It's the best way to promote a song visually.
In kpop the most awaited moment isn't the release of the song but it's the release of the MV.
And lately, as in the past couple of years, Music Videos have been getting more boring AND boring by the release. Same thing over and over. However, there have been a few diamonds in the fugly mess.
Let's start with more recent releases like F(x)'s Electric Shock.
F(x) are like the queens of boring MVs. They get these amazingly catchy songs, that make you sing them for days, but they get these hella BORING MVs EVERYTIME!
With each release all SM does is recycle their clothes, dye their hair a different shade, and give them flashier neon lights for a set.
It's the same thing with Super Junior. They've had the same video being released since like....I don't even know. Some YEARS now.
SM is just overall the King of Boring MVs.
It's like a battle to see who can blind us the most with their lights. Kpop music videos are losing creativity FAST. But there are always a few groups we can count on to entertain us.
Despite the increasing number of horrible MVs. There has been a little influx of some cool concepts. B.A.P.'s Power MV was pretty awesome and the sets kept me interested.
And T-ara has been shutting every other group down when it comes to MVs recently. Their concepts are fresh and detailed.
Some may complain about their MVs being too long but it's worth it. T-ara's MVs keep you so sucked in that you don't even realize you've just watched a 16 minute video.
And quite frankly you end up wanting more. Well I do anyways.
Sunny Hill is one of those under the radar groups but what they are known for is some pretty interesting music videos. Starting with Midnight Circus. Creepy circus characters, pretty girls, and pretty awesome dance sequence.
I may not understand wtf is going on but I'm always glued to their music videos.
I have yet to see a music video from these ladies that I did not enjoy. The visuals are always flawless and nothing less than stunning.
The concepts are never the same. BEG always keeps you wondering. Even their solo MVs do the same. There is always some creepy story with them.
So, in a nutshell, kpop needs to stop being cheap by reproducing the same music videos over and over. BE CREATIVE!
A music video should be a visualization of the song!
